Chet Watkins is a TimeOut Chicago Critics Pick

26 04 2011

We are mere days from our Friday night (10PM)  performance at the 2011 Chicago Improv Festival at the Athenaeum Theatre, 2936 N Southport Ave (at Oakdale Ave) and we couldn’t be more excited!  TimeOut Chicago had some nice things to say about us after seeing our CIF showcase show earlier in the month…

“These long-form practitioners have a secret weapon: fearless women. The men aren’t half bad either (especially the woolly and magnificent Christian Paluck), but I marveled at how the ladies (including former Second City e.t.c. ensemble member Laura Grey) tackled each scene with bawdy abandon. Based on the suggestion of popcorn, this sextet gave us a travel agent with a dial-up computer (hilarious), a couple shopping for gourmet meats and a finale that brought back characters from previous scenes. All in all, impressive.” -TOC

Tell your Chicago area friends to check us out, spread the word.  The amazing slow comedy group, Jake, will be opening for us.  If you are a New Yorker, don’t fret. Laura Grey & Lizzie Redner are staying behind to present a completely original improvised show during our new timeslot: 9PM at the Magnet.  They will be reading from their Teenage Diaries and improvising off of it.  Special Guests are expected!  It doesn’t matter where you live this weekend, we all win!

Chet Watkins – Official Selection of the 2011 Chicago Improv Festival

25 03 2011

We here at Chet Watkins are excited to announce that we have been selected to perform at the prestigious Chicago Improv Festival.

This years CIF will take place from Monday April 25th to Sunday May 1st and feature 90 different shows from 8 nations and 32 cities.  Chet Watkins will be performing on Friday Night (April 29th) with details about time and location pending.  Look us up if you are in the area that week.

The Chicago Improv Festival (CIF) was co-founded by Frances Callier and Jonathan Pitts in 1998 as an educational forum. The festival teaches the art of improv, the history of and the potential for innovation within the art form to students of the craft, professional improv artists and the public. While other improv festivals exist around the world, several in the United States, the Chicago Improv Festival is the only festival that has been created solely for the purposes of documenting, promoting and teaching improv as an art form. The founding of the organization in Chicago, Illinois itself speaks to the organization’s commitment to the legacy of improv and promoting that legacy to others. (CIF – Improv Wiki)

Jana’s How-To Guide to Sexy Pics

2 02 2011

When taking pictures for any purpose (business or pleasure) it is important to always remember the motto: Sex Sells.  I tell this to my 8th grade students as part of our Persuasion Unit.  It doesn’t matter how ugly or fat a person may be, that person can still use his/her sex appeal to to inform, persuade or entertain audiences.

For this reason it is essential to always have “sexy pics” on hand.  Sexy pics are pictures taken of a person with a sexual tone and/or expression.  There are several ways to develop the nature of a sexy pic, but these are some basic guidelines.

#1:  Take sexy pics whenever you travel. This particular sexy pic session was taken when my roommate and I wanted to do a “The Wire Tour” of Baltimore.  Nice Baltimore hotels are REALLY cheap, so it was great location to take some sexy pics.  For the most part, Baltimore is not a sexy city.  I used my iPhone as a camera for these sexy pics.

#2:  Choose a sexy pose. This sexy pose utilizes the basic idea that I am a large feline growling and scratching at you.  For some reason this pose makes people feel sexy.  There are several sexy poses you can make, many of them are animal poses.  I was inspired by the complimentary cheetah robe that the hotel provided.

#3:  Take a sexy pic in a location that implies sex. This is a picture I took in the shower of our hotel room.  Obviously, a shower is a sexy place.  Other sexy places are (in no particular order): dark caves, dance clubs and janitor’s closets.

#4:  Make an orgasmic face. This final tactic is useful when you have a mirror present.  Some orgasm-faces are very unsexy.  In fact, I would urge most males to NOT use this technique.  If you have difficulty making an orgasmic expression, then emulate the expression that a Food Network host (see Giada DeLaurentiis) makes after taking a bite of their own food.
